You can ascend Mt. Pilatus either straight from Kriens/Lucerne or "from behind" on the historical cog railway from Alpnachstad. There are plenty of walks to be had on Mt. Pilatus Kulm, including one into a rock gallery, one up to the "Oberhaupt" with its mini-weather station and webcam and one to the "Esel" (Donkey) opposite (each of which takes no more than 10 or 15 mins). In summer, there is a clearly marked panoramic trail over to the rather more distant Tomlishorn.
