Home of legends -
The idyllic mountain village of Elm
in canton Glarus is proud of its
home-grown legends: Vreni Schneider,
the most successful Swiss ski
racer of all time; and Elmer Citro, the
local lemonade popular throughout
Switzerland.
To its winter guests,
Elm offers unspoilt nature and tremendous
variety: as well as 40 km
of snowsure piste for every ability,
glorious snowfields for freeriders, a
cool snowpark, two thrilling toboggan
runs (illuminated at night), and
endless scope for exploring the magnificent
white landscape on snowshoes,
on touring skis – or simply
hiking along winter paths.
Top tip
Every year on 12 or 13 March, a
magical natural spectacle occurs:
at exactly 8.52am, the sun’s rays
pass through the Martinsloch, a
natural rock hole 2,600 m up, and
illuminate Elm’s church tower for
two minutes.
