The Vallée de Joux with its lake and long watch-making tradition is a world of its own in rugged and unspoilt countryside nestling between Jura Mountain Ranges.
In winter hundreds of ice-skaters enjoy themselves on frozen Lac de Joux. The cross-country skiing paradise in the area of the Swiss-French border is among the most extensive in Central Europe. The wild countryside also delights winter walkers on foot or snow-shoes. There are smallish ski areas for skiers and snowboarders: in L'Abbaye there are four ski lifts, in Le Brassus and L'Orient three.
