Aletsch

The insiders’ choice: Although Aletsch Arena has been included on UNESCO World Heritage list since 2001, it remains an insiders’ secret among winter resorts.
For guests, this has to be an advantage: you hardly ever have to wait at the skilifts, there is plenty of space for everyone on the snowsure pistes and cross-country trails, and prices at hotels and holiday apartments are distinctly family-friendly.

Three alps, one lift pass

At the heart of this region lies the incomparable Aletsch glacier: at more than 23 km, the longest ice flow in the Alps. The most impressive views of this 27-billion-ton wonder are from the Eggishorn – which is also where the most challenging pistes lie. Bettmeralp is the middle of the three connected and car-free resorts; even in the delightful heart of the village, you can ski or snowboard from the piste up to your chalet door. Guests in Riederalp, meanwhile, are well placed for discovering the region's culture and nature, even in winter. Thanks to several gentle slopes, it is particularly well suited to families.

In all, the Aletsch Arena has 99 km of piste – and thanks to snowmaking facilities, the entire area is snowsure all season.

Top tip

Aletsch Arena is one of the most beautiful touring areas in the Alps. The finest panoramic route follows the ridge of the Moosfluh, at the edge of the Aletsch glacier – with sweeping views of the majestic 4,000-m alpine peaks.
