Melchsee-Frutt is situated in a high-altitude valley in Central Switzerland. Even several centuries ago, there was a lot of traffic here between the forest cantons of Central Switzerland and the Bernese Oberland. The Frutt is a sea of flowers in summer and superb skiing and snowboarding country in winter. But this sunny plateau has plenty to offer fans of winter hiking and cross-country skiing as well. The loop up to Tannalp, for example, takes you through some magnificent snow-clad scenery and past two picturesque chapels between Melchsee-Frutt and Tannalp.
Melchsee-Frutt - Tannalp - Melchsee-Frutt
At the cable car station, follow the trail signposted to Tannalp. This will take you over a hilltop and then down to the lake, where the trail broadens into a wide path. After passing the Melchsee-Frutt Chapel, continue on up to Tannalpsee and from there on to Tannalp Restaurant, which is the turning point of the tour. For the return journey, simply retrace your steps back down to Melchsee-Frutt.
