Fog-free winter fun – this, at least, is how Stoos likes to sell itself. Its geographical location high above the Muota valley certainly makes for plenty of sunshine and there is a convenient – if slightly hair-raising – cable car on hand to whisk you out of the foggy lowlands and up to the winter arena of Stoos. Once there, you should take a minute to savour the fantastic panoramic views. The hike itself will take you in a huge arc round the village of Stoos and past a pretty little wayside chapel. The highlight is likely to be the trip up the Fronalpstock, however, as the views from the summit are superb.
Stoos - Fronalpstock - Stoos
From the Stoosbahn mountain station, follow the signs to the Fronalpstockbahn. After passing Stoos Chapel, you will find yourself at the valley station of the two-section chairlift with which you can ride up to the top of Fronalpstock. There, after a 30-minute tour of the summit, simply take the chair lift (or a toboggan) back down to Stoos. From the valley station, the trail continues on through the village before returning to the starting point of the tour.
