In the summer months, the Oberalp Pass provides an important link between Central Switzerland and the Graubünden Oberland and is popular among both car and truck drivers, as well as being a Mecca for motorcyclists. In winter, on the other hand, the Oberalp Pass is closed to road traffic and the road itself used as a ski slope, toboggan run and hiking trail. The views it commands both down into the valley and up to the Gotthard mountains are likely to prove unforgettable. Far below, the town of Andermatt can be seen nestling against the hillside. This winter hike takes you from Andermatt railway station up to Nätschen, both of whose restaurants have beautifully sunny terraces. The hike is made all the more impressive by the fact that it follows the same route as the Matterhorn-Gotthard-Bahn, snaking its way up the mountain.
