The Philosophers’ Trail on the Muottas Muragl plateau really will get you philosophizing: Did the indescribably beautiful Upper Engadine come about by chance or was it the work of some providential power? And why here rather than anywhere else? No matter! Anyone hiking through the snow-clad mountains of the Upper Engadine is bound to be humbled by their beauty. And when the lakes of the Upper Engadine Lakeland are frozen, the valley seems far more spacious than usual, despite the mighty massifs towering above it on either side. It really is magnificent! The Philosophers’ Trail is beautifully prepared and describes a giant loop up to the Val Muragl and then back to the starting point at Muottas Muragl.

At the mountain station, set off along the trail to your right and after that, turn right at every junction you come to. After about 50 minutes of hiking, you will find a bench, marking the turning point of your tour. From there, set off to the left and after that bear right all the way down to Muottas Muragl.
