The holiday resort of Savognin nestles among the mighty Surses mountains on the road leading over the Julier Pass. As there is very little traffic over the pass in the winter months, the snow-clad valley tends to be wonderfully peaceful at this time of year. On the other side of the Julia river is Savognin’s very own winter sports arena, extending from Piz Martegnas to Piz Cartas and from there to Radons. In addition to ski slopes, the region also boasts toboggan runs and snow-shoe trails as well as several winter hiking trails complete with fantastic views. The two-hour-long ascent from Savognin to Riom and Tigignas is one long panorama show accompanied by pretty villages and magnificent views of the mountains every inch of the way.
Savognin - Riom - Tigignas
The winter hike to Tigignas starts in the centre of Savognin and leads first down to the banks of the river Julia. At the Punt Crap signpost, follow the trail leading to Riom. On the way up to Riom, you will pass an impressive castle called Burg Raetia. Once in the village of Riom, the trail continues along the hill top to Tigignas. After hiking for about two hours, you will reach the station in Tigignas.
