That corner of Switzerland where Prince Charles likes to spend a few days of every year leaving his imprint in the snow also happens to be excellent winter hiking country. Klosters boasts a dense network of hiking trails, one of the most attractive of which is that up to Alp Garfiun. The tour begins in the pretty hamlet of Monbiel and from there continues up the valley. The river Landquart, here no more than a bubbling stream, is clearly visible in the valley bottom all the way and the mountain panoramas are fantastic no matter which way you look. At the turning point on Alp Garfiun, there happens to be a cosy mountain hut that serves delicious farmhouse fare. The return journey follows the Landquart back towards Klosters and promises terrific views of the Gotschna.
Monbiel - Garfiun - Monbiel - Aeuja - Klosters
The trail starts at the bus stop at Monbiel car park and climbs gently up the valley towards Alp Garfiun. From there, simply follow the same route back to Monbiel and then continue on downhill, over the Landquart, past Aeuja and on to Klosters.
