Schwarzsee

The Schwarzsee – or Black Lake – in the Alpine foothills of the Pay de Fribourg is very popular among the locals. Whether in summer or winter, every weekend the people of Fribourg flock in their thousands to this idyllic little lake. Although virtually unknown elsewhere in Switzerland, it is in fact the source of the river Sense – the river that marks the dividing line between the French- and German-speaking parts of Switzerland. In winter, the Schwarzsee is invariably frozen over and therefore attracts not just walkers, but curlers, skaters, cross-country skiers and all kinds of other ice sports as well.
