Small, but fine. That would certainly be a fitting description of the Lauchernalp skiing area. Its location high above the Lötschental is fantastic: sun-drenched and endowed with spectacular views of the Bietschhorn and Lötschenlücke, it promises plenty of unadulterated winter fun. The winter hike from the Lauchernalp mountain station up to the Stafel, meanwhile, is an unfolding panorama all the way. You will pass two pretty little chapels en route – the one on the Stafel consecrated as recently as 2002. And if the mountain air has given you an appetite, there is always the Berghaus restaurant near Stafel.
Lauchernalp - Stafel - Hockenalp - Lauchernalp
At the mountain station of the Lauchernalp Bahn, set off to the right and then take the wide trail leading uphill. After passing the Berghaus restaurant, you will arrive at the Stafel ski-lift station. Walk round the station and then cross the slope leading down into the valley. Continue on down to Hockenalp, where the trail broadens into a wide path. The ascent back up to the cable car station begins at the next fork.
