Adventure & Sports (Central Switzerland)

Swiss Waters

The idyllic hilly countryside around the lake, the medieval castle of Hallwyl with its heritage exhibitions, and the romantic boat trips round the lake make Lake Hallwil and the nearby Seetal valley a small but popular tourist area on the border between the cantons of Lucerne and Aargau. There is a popular walk round the shores of Lake Hallwil, with lots of opportunities for swimming or having a rest.

Lake Zug is located in the heart of Central Switzerland, in the cantons of Zug, Schwyz and Lucerne. Set amid charming hilly countryside, this picturesque region presents many and varied opportunities for walking, cycling and rollerblading. For example, an energetic rollerblading excursion can be rounded off with a relaxing boat ride and a piece of typical Zug cherry cake.

Situated east of Lake Zug, the Ägerisee was the site of the renowned Battle of Morgarten in 1315, the first battle between the Confederates and the Habsburgs. Matters are much more peaceful now, day trippers travel across the calm lake, fish restaurants serve the local ‘Rötel’ (Zug golden trout) and walkers and cyclist make their way through the Alpine upland landscape.

Fishing Museums

Zug's close association with the lake is documented in the Fishing Museum. The fish-breeding section is of particular interest for both adults and children. From November till May the development from egg to baby fish can be followed in the internationally-known fish breeding jar, a Zug invention. For the young visitor there is a lot to discover: for example, fishing equipment from days-gone-by up to present day. There is even a fully equipped dug-out to explore. The museum was founded in 1888.

Swiss Waters

Encircled by popular excursion mountains, Lake Lucerne is the lake with the greatest scenic variety in the country. It is somewhat reminiscent of a fjord landscape, yet remains characterised by a mild lake climate. Boat cruises on board five historic paddlewheel steamers and 15 elegant salon motor vessels count among the highlights of this region.
