Called Castelgrande or Castello di San Michele or Burg Uri, this is the oldest of the castles built in the 13th century.
Two towers, the Torre Nera (28 metres) and the Torre Bianca (27 Meter) dominate the ancient city of Bellinzona. In the Castelgrande you will find the archaeological museum and art gallery. Together with the Castello Montebello, also known as Burg Schwyz or San Martino, and the highest castle, Sasso Corbaro, as well as Unterwalden or Santa Barbara, these structures are among the best preserved medieval castles in Switzerland. Since 2000 they are designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

How to get there:
Castelgrande can be reached by Lift or on foot from the center of the city.
Castello di Montebello is a 15 minute walk from the center of the city. or by car.
Castello di Sasso Corbaro can be reached by car or by bus (from the train station). It takes about one hour to walk there.
