Up until now, Villa Ciani has served as headquarters of the City's Fine Arts Collection and to all the exhibitions connected to it, whereas in future, with the prospect of turning it into a historical museum, the villa will also host temporary historical exhibitions.

Since 5 March, the “Museo d’Arte Moderna” has been renamed the “Museo d’Arte”. The new focus seeks to combine the fine arts’ exhibition programme with the activities associated with the appreciation of Lugano’s artistic heritage.

With its permanent collection and changing exhibitions, the Museo Cantonale d'Arte offers a cross-section of the art history of the 19th and 20th centuries, with a special focus on the Ticino and its links to the wider international art scene.

Immersed in the wonderful tropical park of the Heleneum the Museo delle Culture of Lugano holds one of the best European Art Collection of the Southern sea. The visitors itinerary allows both the merely curious and the connoisseurs to explore the creativity and deep meanings of cultures of the South East Asia and Oceania.

The Museum hosts precious evidence of Hermann Hesse’s last 43 years in Montagnola up until his death.
