This is the city's most impressive late-Gothic building. The three-aisled basilica towers above the roofs of the Old Town. The building was started in 1421. The vantage point of this masterpiece is located 344 steps above the entrance in the 100-meter-high cathedral spire (highest cathedral tower of Switzerland). Its promiment characteristic is the portal, on which the depiction of the last judgment can be admired.

The old bear pit was the landmark of the City of Bern for over 150 years, and was home to up to twelve animals.
