The building was created between 1609 and 1614 and is home to one of Europe's largest weapons collections.

This geological walking tour leads from Solothurn across the Balmberg, to the "Röti" (1397 m) on the Weissenstein and down to Gänsbrunnen. The path is signposted with 34 information panels and route markers that provide details on the visible local geological features.
