Nature as a museum is the motto in the Ecomuseum Simplon, that comprises the area between Brig and Gondo. The hiking trail one follows is an old muleteers' path, developed by the wealthy Brig merchant Stockalper. The perfect place for rambling. Spending a day on the alp and watching the cheese-making process, tasting the finished product and resting on rejuvenating straw is a must. This is a great starting point for several walks on the Tour du Mont-Blanc route, or in the direction of the Ferret mountain lakes and across to the ancient Great St. Bernard Hospice.

Marveling at records
The two locomotives could be contemporaries of our grandparents or even great-grandparents. They were constructed in 1903, respectively in 1913, and still get steamed up on a daily basis. The locomotives, christened "Weisshorn" and "Furkahorn" ride along the tracks connecting Gletsch to Furka by a 1874-meter-long tunnel.

Simply awe-inspiring. At 23 km long, the mighty Aletsch glacier is the
longest and most fascinating river of ice in the Alps, and the most
accessible too.
Well away from busy roads, the villages of Val d'Anniviers have retained their traditional charm, and the Hotel Bella Tola has done so particularly well.
From 3,454m to 4,027m in two hours - the ascent of the Allalinhorn is
short and simple with a guide, but still an incredible alpine
experience.
No other mountain is quite as photographed as the Matterhorn - the
views from the "five lakes route" are some of the most popular.
Between Martigny and the Emosson reservoir, travel on no fewer than
four different forms of mountain transport - including the world record
holding funicular from Le Châtelard.

The Marmot Trail starts at the top station of the Schönbiel cable car. Before you set out, use the panoramic telescope to scan the surrounding alpine meadows. You may get lucky and observe entire marmot families outside their burrows. Once you start moving, the signposts along the way will tell you more about the life of these endearing creatures. The journey ends at lovely Bettmer Lake.
