The Hotel Chalet Schwarzwaldalp is located in the idyllic Reichenbach valley at 1454 metres a.s.l. Situated in the middle of natural terrain and encircled by rock faces, glaciers and brooks, the Schwarzwaldalp is a practically untouched piece of nature.
The Broch hut lies at 1500 metres a.s.l. and was used as an accommodation hut on the Grimsel during the construction of the dams. The hut was completely renovated in 1993.

Using a mat, the mountain cableways on the Gemsstock successfully protect glacial ice from melting. Climate change affects glaciers; more snow melts than is formed during the following winter.

The area of the Grimsel Pass marks the eastern boundary of the World Heritage Region. From the Grimsel Hospice on the mountain pass of the same name, a footpath leads along the north side of Lake Grimsel through an exciting moorland landscape to the Aare Glaciers. This is where the source of the Aare is to be found, which is of extraordinary importance as a water resource. The Unteraar Glacier is also regarded as the birthplace of glacier research.

The Gelmerbahn, with a gradient of 106%, is the world’s steepest funicular train. It leads to Lake Gelmer (Gelmersee) located at 1850 meters in the midst of a magnificent world of granite. Lake Gelmer beckons you to tarry awhile before you embark on one of the many hiking and trekking tours starting from here.
