Lucerne's Market

One highlight not to miss is Lucerne's market, held on the banks of the river every Tuesday and Saturday, 7am to 1pm. Search out Beeler's cheese stall. Locals have dubbed Beeler "the Pope of Cheese" - you'll find people coming from far and wide to Lucerne to queue up for his famous produce.

Lucerne's Old Town

Lucerne's Old Town, spread over both banks of the River Reuss, is made up of a web of narrow alleys and broad cobbled squares lined by intricately frescoed facades. But this is no museum piece: the narrow streets are still packed with shops and commerce. Look out for the designer fashions of RollsReuss, the jewellery and watches of Bucherer and Gübelin, and the coffee and wine at Cavin.
