Getting Around 
The “Ebenalp” adventure begins as soon as one takes the cable car ride and floats by the Wildkirchli, or “Little Forest Church”, a large cave on a narrow balcony of rock. The Ebenalp is not totally plain, although the German meaning of “Ebenalp” may suggest that it is a plain Alp. However, unlike other excursion mountains, it is not only a starting point, but also the destination for a variety of hikes, some easy and some challenging, like the one from the summit of the Säntis. In fall it is always above the fog line. On the wide high plateau with its rich Alpine flora you will have a wonderful panoramic view over the rolling hills of Appenzell, Sankt Gallen and Thurgau, the vast Lake Constance region as well as the picturesque Alpstein chain.
The famous Waldkirchli, with the mountain inn nestled in the rocks, can be reached via a cave.

Since 1955 there has been an aerial cableway connecting Wasserauen (868m) and Ebenalp (1644m), which draws annually up to 200,000 visitors. On the high plateau the mountain station of the cableway is the starting point for magnificent, restorative hiking tours into the Alpstein region.
