There are few places in the Alps where the glaciers reach so deeply into the valley as in Grindelwald. The best view is obtained at the vantage point on the First (2167m), which is reached on a fun-filled gondola ride.
Here not only the Upper and Lower Grindelwald glaciers come into view, but also such four-thousand-meter peaks as the Finsteraarhorn, Schreckhorn, Lauteraarhorn and the Fiescher-horn.
For a long time the Firstbahn (First train) was able to boast of the world’s longest chairlift. Many still remember the 4,354 meter long lift facility – not least because of the hit song "s'Träumli" der Grindelwaldner Boss Buebe”. Since 1991 an efficient gondola can take you to the panoramic peak. The 6-seater gondola whisks visitors from Grindelwald via Bort and Schreckfeld to the First. During the 17-minute ride, a length of 5,226 meters and a height of 1100 meters are conquered. Up to 1,200 persons can be transported per hour. If you sit with your back to the direction of the train, you will enjoy the best view.
