From 1893 to 1935 an electric cogwheel train ran from Pas de l'Échelle near Veyrier to Monnetier and to the Great Salève.
In 1932 the northern end of the Great Salève was made accessible by cable car from Pas de l'Échelle up to an elevation of 1,120 meters.
The Saleve is a popular destination because of its proximity to Annemasse and above all to Geneva. It offers a wonderful view over the city on the Rhone, Lake Geneva, the south of the Swiss Jura Mountains, the Pre-Alps and up to the 4,508-meter Mont Blanc and Lake Annecy.
