Gornergrat

The perfect excursion (3,089 m).

Impressive and majestic, standing out against the sky, the Matterhorn – a national symbol – steals the show from the other 37 four-thousand-metre mountains visible from here. Enjoy the panoramic views and the fresh alpine air – take the Gornergrat Railway to this wonderful spot. It’s true what they say – Zermatt really is heaven on earth.
Switzerland, just like on the postcards? That and much more – come up and find out!

Simply awe-inspiring

Take a deep breath on arrival in Zermatt and get yourself ready for breathtaking views! Mighty rivers of ice carved out and shaped this area, just as they still do today. And the panorama is stunning – on one side the Monte Rosa massif (4,634 m) and on the other, the Matterhorn. High alpine vegetation and beautiful meadows dotted with deep blue mountain lakes. A fascinating mountain world with wonderful views – perfect for hiking and taking time out.

The Gornergrat – the magic word

Get closer to this world on the Gornergrat (3,089 m). Aiming for the mountains? Then the Gornergrat railway is for you. Winding its way up the hillside, the 40-minute ride provides wonderful views of the Matterhorn, and once at the top, take time to admire the views, before setting off on one of the many wonderful hiking paths. Or choose from four very different mountain-biking routes.

Up to the alp – great fun for families

Discover the Riffelalp – a great mountain hiking area – from Zermatt, on one of three routes particularly suitable for children. The easiest takes the Gornergrat railway to the Riffelalp, before walking back down to the valley. Walk through fragrant stone pine and larch forests, discover glacier mills, admire your constant companion – the most famous of the 4,000 m mountains, and take home a wealth of impressions.
