A glass tower stretches into the sky next to Neuchâtel`s railway station, housing the Federal Office for Statistics: an example of ecologically astute architecture. There is plenty to discover around the centre of this old city with its artisans' houses of yellow limestone, such as the library with manuscripts of writer Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and the Dürrenmatt Centre with the literary and graphic remains of Swiss author Friedrich Dürrenmatt. And a diversion on the lake: the Hotel Palafitte, built on stilts.
