History has been and still is being written in the Bundeshaus (Federal Parliament). Long ago, Goethe and Casanova were captivated by the charm of Switzerland`s capital, with its 6km of arcades. The city`s medieval heart was built on a peninsula in the River Aare by the Zähringer duke Berchtold V in 1191, and placed on UNESCO`s World Heritage List in 1983. Albert Einstein lived for a time at Kramgasse 49, where he developed his Theory of Relativity. In June 2005, the Paul Klee Centre, designed by Renzo Piano, will open as a museum dedicated to Bern`s most famous artist.
