The salt mines in Bex, exploiting deposits
discovered in the 15th century, are a maze of
passages, shafts, stairs and gigantic caverns
totalling more than 50 km in length. The
colossal task of excavating the mine – by
hand – took a century.
A mine train carries you deep into this fascinating
subterranean world. A museum tells
the history of the “white gold”, and on a tour
you witness the most amazing and distinctive
mining techniques used from when the first
gallery was excavated in 1684 up to the present
day. At 400 metres below ground level is
a restaurant. Special guided tours for groups.
Reservations recommended. Duration of visit:
1¾ hours.
Open
15. 3.–2.11. 08, daily guided tours.
April, May and October: closed on Mondays.
