Tall stone houses with sgraffito-decorated facades line the narrow streets. The ornamentation and simple paintings on the buildings are among the most remarkable examples anywhere in the Engadine. Guarda received the "Wakker Prize" in 1975 for its harmonious architecture. The village is a place with an almost mystical aura.
