The castle at Tarasp, built in 1040, is the symbol of the Lower Engadine, looking out over the valley.
Until 1803, the territory of present day Tarasp, including its castle, belonged to Tyrol and was therefor a Habsburg enclave in the Engadine. The imposing fortress was never overrun. The castle is owned privately, and guided tours are offered.
The gem of the castle is its organ, with 2500 pipes, on which public concerts are regularly given.

Location:
Scuol Tarasp. At the entrance to the village turn left to Sparsels (Parking).
