The Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhorn region
was inscribed on UNESCO’s list of World
Heritage Sites in 2001 because of its uniqueness,
variety and beauty.
The area includes
the largest connected glacier system in the
Alps, as well as impressive massifs and
unspoilt valleys. It offers outstanding examples
of alpine mountain formation and the
evolution of glaciers. The dynamics of these
glaciers, influenced by climate, have given
rise to a fascinating variety of habitats, which
can be observed around the Jungfrau, the
Great Aletsch Glacier and the Bietschhorn.
The region as a whole is recognized as one
of the most spectacular mountain landscapes
in the world: visit the site for yourself, and
help preserve this wonderful piece of world
heritage!
