Historic long-distance footpath

The landscape on either side of the Splügen pass – between Thusis in Graubünden and the small Italian town of Chiavenna – shows traces of its 2,000-year history as a transit route over the Alps.
The beautiful viaSpluga, which links the two towns, passes through spectacular natural landscapes – not least the narrow Viamala gorge with its 300-metre walls, and the wild Cardinello gorge. It also takes in many nationally and internationally important cultural sites along the way, in cluding the prehistoric rock carvings of Carschenna, the medieval painted ceiling of the church of St.Martin in Zillis, and the unspoilt villages of Andeer and Splügen. Ideally, allow four days to walk the whole route; special packages are available which include the onward transport of your luggage from one hotel to the next.

How to get there:
Drive or take public transportation from Chur to Thusis.
