The iron sculptor, Bernhard Luginbühl, was inspired by Thun Castle and its collection of weapons when he created the "Das wehrhafte Handwerk" sculpture, commonly known as the Büchsenöffner (tin opener). This simple and unadorned artwork sitting on its pedestal by the lakeside rises spectacularly up into the sky. Its dominant elements are its blade-like shape and shield-like plate supported by three pillars. It was located at the Sternenplatz in the Thun inner city until 2011 before being moved to its present location.
