Werdenberg

Since 1985 Werdenberg has been transforming itself regularly into Europe’s smallest festival city. The courtyard of Werdenberg Castle offers a uniquely intimate atmosphere for musical theater.

Originally a project of the Werdenberg Music School, today the festival is popular even beyond the country’s borders. Because of its limited seating capacity (300 seats) the Castle Festival has remained small – and small is beautiful. Thanks to the closeness of the audience and orchestra pit, the acoustics remains free of technical aids. However, the audience definitely has enough space for a delightful evening at the opera.

The situation today: The Werdenberger Castle Festival has evolved over the years and won a loyal fan base. Since 2008, the Festival has been taking place every two years. The chorus of the Werdenberger Castle Festival and the professional musicians of the “Sinfonietta Vorarlberg” are an indispensible part of the festival. Even the soloists from all over Europe highly appreciate the warmth of the “festival family” and the beautiful scenery of St. Gallen’s Rhine Valley.

Since 2008 guests have been served special opera menues in the Bistro tent, so that not only the eyes and ears are regaled, but also the palate. The stage and grandstand are roofed, which ensures that no performance has to be canceled on account of inclement weather.
