Dent d'Hérens 4171 m

Way up high, in fact no longer in the drainage basin for the valley, is the Dent d'Hérens, from a mountaineer's point of view in the shadow of the Matterhorn, just a few kilometres away. The usual starting point for the difficult route that most people take to the top on the Italian border is the Rifugio Aosta on the southern side of the ridge. The first ascent of the Dent d'Hérens was on 12 August 1863.
