Intro

The Vanil Noir area is one of pre-Alpine landscapes of special beauty that shelter a great variety of flora and fauna. It is listed in the inventory of natural sites and monuments of national importance.

Description

There are quite big populations of ibex and chamois living here. The Morteys Valley is also noted for its rare plant species (alpine betony, pyramidal orchid, alpine flax, alpine cephalaria and alpine dragonhead). The nature conservation area (OR The Nature Reserve) is one land belonging to the municipalities of Charmey and Grandvillard and covers an area of 15 km², including the valleys of Bounavaux and Morteys.
