With an improved public transport offer, these regions could newly attract local guests as well as visitors from afar with their tourist offers, particularly those not underway in own cars. Added value in these regions shaped by migration is thus easier to achieve. Evaluation of the pilot project together with a customer survey show the following: During the years 2006 and 2007 more than 2,500 passengers were transported to the aforementioned regions, generating added-value figures of around 2 million Swiss francs. 30% of these visitors left their cars behind in favour of public transport. And the punch line…. through strengthening the public transport service, the respective regional environments were spared around 100 tons of CO2 emissions, resulting in a win win sitiation for all!
