Since the Grünhorn Hut, built in 1863 when SAC was founded, soon becomes too small for the large number of mountain climbers, Fridolin Hut is built in 1923 on the other side of the little lake. From 1938, Babette Zweifel-Aebli, the first female warden, officiates in the Fridolin Hut. The Section head is very worried about this appointment. Will a woman be able to run the operation? In the appointment contract the Section insists on a one-year probation period, and reserves the right to immediately dismiss Mrs. Zweifel-Aebli. But the lady warden is not only hard working and a competent businesswoman - she also has the authority required for her office. One day, four climbers come to the hut and ask her, as if in an interrogation, if her husband is present, or whether she has a dog. She retorts firmly that a hut warden needs neither a husband nor a dog, if guests behave themselves. This brings them the four mountain climbers to heel.
To this day, a stay in Fridolin Hut is a celebration when the sun is shining, and the adjacent bathing lake is a luxury that is not offered by any hotel.
There is a dormitory with 60 mattresses and duvets as well as half board. In summer the hut is temporarily manned by a warden. At other times it is open upon request.
