Ste-Croix - Grange Neuve - Mont Suchet - Chalet du Suchet - Ballaigues - Vallorbe

The Aiguilles de Baulmes - a strange chain of rocks of striking proportions - form the first highlight. Round the summit of Mont Suchet, the scenery is treeless and bare, but if you look more closely you'll find nearly as many flowers as in an alpine meadow. The 360 degree view is stunning. Lake Neuchâtel and Lake Geneva seem to vie with each other to attract the observer's attention. Behind this: the chain of the Alps dominated by Mont Blanc which towers above the rest. On the way down there are lovely views into the Vallon de Joux and the French Jura.

This walk from Ste-Croix to Vallorbe always follows the yellow and red signs for the Jura Mountain Trail. It ascends in a number of stages to the summit of Mont Suchet. The descent to Vallorbe goes first down to the Chalet du Suchet and then on through lush Jura meadows to Ballaigues. The last section from Ballaigues to Vallorbe is unfortunately almost entirely on tarmac roads.
