Saanen – Mittelberg – Rellerligrat – Saanen

On the border of canton Berne, torn between the French and German languages, lays the Rellerli, Schönried’s sunny mountain and home to a number of traditional alpine hospitality establishments.

The mountain-bike tour on the Rellerli commences in the Saanen village, leading firstly past traditional houses of wood. Following, the tour traverses the remote and narrow Grischbach Valley on the way to the Mittelberg Pass. From here a path also leads to the secluded Abländschen village, surrounded by the rocks of the Gastlosen that climbers so love to make their way up.

As of the Mittelberg Pass, the vegetation takes on more of an alpine nature and country farms with charming alpine hospitality line the route. Views too become more and more spectacular, and by fine weather you can even catch a glimpse of the Freiburg, Valais and Bernese Alps. Sweeping views over the lush green meadows and picturesque Saanen chalets are also yours to enjoy – and on arriving at the Rellerli ridge the Berggasthaus Relleri extends you a very warm welcome and chance to sit down!

Those who’d love to have a bike session on the mountain without too much effort can take the mountain rail from Schönried to the Rellerli and commence the tour from there. Alternatively, in the valley between the villages bikes can be conveniently transported thanks to the Montreux Oberland railway as well as Postbus services.
