Schafscheid (dividing up of sheep on their return at the end of the summer)

The event provides an opportunity for shepherds and Alpine herdsmen as well as visitors and locals to get together and celebrate the return of the sheep.
The event takes place annually at Riederalp or Bettmeralp, which alternate in hosting the festivities: After a summer spent by the Aletsch Glacier sheep in their thousands are driven down from the mountains in a festive procession under the auspices of the Alpine museum.
