Sierre-Salgesch and surrounding area

Offering a feast of culture on the plain, surrounded by vineyards and bathed in sunshine all the year round, roughly twenty minutes from Sion airport and 1 hour 45 minutes from Geneva international airport, Sierre and its surrounding area are easily accessible. This region is known for its fervent cultural activity, the beauty of its nature, its mountains, its sunny hillsides, its wild Rhône, its deep gorges, its unspoilt natural spaces, its vineyards and its vintage wines. Highlights of the Sierre region include: the forest of Pfyn - Finges, a vast pine forest in a southern setting, Géronde lake and its beach between vineyards and hills, old buildings and numerous Châteaux. Not forgetting the gastronomic reputation of its restaurants, and particularly its wine-tasting centre located in the idyllic setting of the Château de Villa, where local dishes can also be sampled. In addition, many wine growers offer visits to their cellars.

The Anniviers Valley

A picturesque valley located on the left bank of the Rhône, above Sierre, in the Valais canton of Switzerland. Easily accessible by train as far as Sierre, then by public transport, the highest villages and resorts of this valley lie in wait after an hour's travel by postal coach, from the comfort of which you can admire the surrounding countryside. On arrival at your chosen location, you'll have time to discover the charms and special attractions of each of the villages of the Anniviers Valley. Their houses burnished by the sun, their grain stores, their churches and chapels, their age-old dwelling-places and original windmills will evoke a past rich in tradition. Animal pageantry, the celebration of religious festivals, fifes and drums' traditions that have entered the realm of folklore to delight the public and local population of all ages, stamping their cultural imprint on the Anniviers Valley.

Chandolin
perched on the sunniest slopes of the Anniviers Valley, Chandolin stands at an altitude of almost 2'000m. A resort where you can truly relax, it is a refuge in the heart of an imposing panorama of unspoilt nature.

Grimentz
an authentic, picturesque village, surrounded by a natural wilderness, its alpine flora and fauna and fresh, wholesome climate make it an island of tranquillity amidst the tree tops of the small valley of Moiry.

St-Luc
the charm of the past mirrored in the present. Walks under the stars: the path of the planets, its astronomical observatory, the Griolet Beacon, 18th century windmills. Here, all roads lead to the skies of yesteryear and today.

Vercorin
gateway to the Vallon de Réchy, a protected natural reserve. The finest viewpoint in the valley, with unique vegetation and a glorious climate in an unspoilt and invigorating natural setting. Sports, games and entertainment for all.

Zinal
at the foot of the Imperial Crown mountain range, where the valley meets the mountain. This friendly village is the gateway to eternal snow and ice, and consequently an alpine skiing centre accessible to all.

Vissoie
a village located on the slopes of the mountain. Invite your friends to discover houses that history has passed by, gardens, paths, or different aspects of the religious culture of the Anniviers Valley, such as the church or crypt of the Chapelle du Château.

Ayer, St-Jean, Mayoux, Pinsec, Mottec, Niouc, Cuimey, Bouillets, Pralong, Brie, les Morands, la Combaz, Fang, Soussillon, Mission are like mysteriously named pearls set in the resplendent necklace formed by other village resorts of the Anniviers Valley.

SPORT AND MOUNTAINS

For the international year of the mountain, our region invites you to discover the famous peaks that encircle it. In the central Valais area, at the foot of the Imperial Crown formed by the Weisshorn (4'505 m), the Zinalrothorn (4'221 m), the Obergabelhorn (4'063 m), the Cervin (4'477 m) and the Dent Blanche (4'358m), you can choose the altitude that suits you the best.

There are many paths for walkers; from the vineyards of Sierre (500 m) to remote mountain cabins. From here, the most seasoned alpine walkers can set off on itineraries that have all the flavour of epic alpine adventure. Families can follow numerous educational paths on the plain or in the foothills of the mountains.

The Sierre-Anniviers region offers a wide range of sporting activities for all the family:

Summer

The old houses and barns are snuggled up close to one another, their wooden façades – burnt black by the sun – contrasting picturesquely with the fiery red geraniums in the window boxes. Sierre-Anniviers is also an ideal base for scaling one of the area’s five mountains higher than 4,000 m, such as the Bishorn, which even hikers can tackle. The Pfyn forest, meanwhile – the largest pine forest in Switzerland – is regarded as one of the country’s best conserved landscapes.
