The Säntis is the landmark of the Lake Constance region. The mountain, which can be seen from miles away, is also well-known for extreme weather conditions that otherwise only occur in the High Alps. A first weather station was built here in 1882, and has been manned by a weatherman ever since.
One can comfortably get to the Panorama Restaurant at the top of the mountain with the aerial cable car Schwägalp–Säntis, one of the most used mountain trains in Switzerland. On foggy winter days, winter hiking trails and snow shoe hiking beckon visitors to the mountain sun on the Schwägalp. In the summer the Säntis is a popular destination for hikes and mountain tours in the Alpstein region. A 360-degree view of six Alpine countries is always guaranteed.
In summer our unique hiking paradise awaits you. The many opportunities for Nordic Walking are particularly popular and trendy. In the Schwägalp/Säntis Nature Exploration Park and in the Stone Park you will discover the whole world of pre-alpine flora and fauna as well as the fascinating secrets of geology. The dairy that showcases Alpine cheese-making reflects the Appenzell cheese culture and on the huge sun terrace of the Schwägalp Mountain Hotel you will meet visitors form around the globe.
The gondola leading to the peak of Mt. Säntis is fully operational even in the winter. What a wonderful opportunity to escape from the fog at lower elevations to a sunny paradise and to enjoy the breathtaking Alpine panorama in the glorious sunshine on the summit. A plethora of activities can also be enjoyed on the Schwägalp: the family ski lift, Alpine skiing, horse-drawn sleigh rides, snow-shoe trekking, winter hiking and Nordic walking on the network of trails which are well-maintained even in winter.
One of the most beautiful panoramas I have ever seen. I went on a clear day and could not catch my breath because of what I was seeing, the way there was also very beautiful, a not-to-be-missed destination!
