At an altitude of 780 metres above sea level, the Hohwacht is the highest point in the eastern Oberaargau. The top of the tower (20 m) offers a magnificent panorama of the Mittelland from the Jura to the Alps. The scenery that surrounds this commanding height is definitely worth more than just one journey of discovery.

The Hohwacht on the Ghürn was a key fire-signal station until 1798. By day or by night, fire signals from the lookout towers in past years could alert the entire canton within a matter of 3 to 4 hours. The system was last used in 1798 when the French army attacked Bern.
