In Leuk, there is a vine that is looked after especially carefully by the local wine-makers: estimated to have been planted in 1798, it is probably one of the oldest in Europe. Cuttings have been taken from the plant, propagated and replanted, and for the last few years wine has been made from this old vine: Cornalin "Vitis Antiqua 1798". It has a most majestic appearance: deep, dark red and velvety.
