The dry and alternately dry and damp meadows at about 1000 m above St-Martin are among the most diverse habitats anywhere. Meadow sage, sainfoin and wild thyme grow here. On sunny days, the meadows are full of the chirping of crickets that you can hear for miles. Dry meadows also provide a habitat for Scarce Swallowtail butterflies, cirl buntings, common whitethroats and sand lizards.
