In 1998, Valais was one of the first Swiss cantons to confirm the return of wolves. At the same time, losses of farm animals increased and shepherds became angry. Walter Hildbrand addressed this problem by setting up a herd protection centre in Jeizinen. Here farmers can find the famous German Shepherd dogs and even donkeys to help them protect their sheep.
