Swiss songwriter and poet (1895 – 1982), born in Montreux. In his youth, Jean Villard Gilles tried his luck in the theatre in Paris and then in the variety theatre. As the author of the poem "La Venoge" and numerous songs, he became well-known in the Lake Geneva region. The wine-growers of St-Saphorin have planted a small vineyard in his memory.
