Alpine farming

The alpine farms in the Diemtigtal are "occupied" in early summer and deserted again in the autumn - with a "Züglete" or procession to mark the occasion. At the autumn cattle show, the cows can win prizes and then process down the mountain with garlands round their necks. Under the "Rent-a-cow" scheme, visitors can select a cow for the summer and follow the alpine experience at close quarters.
