The small mountain village Cauco is located in the heart of the Calanca Valley, in the southern part of Graubünden. Besides the actual village, the municipality includes the hamlets of Bodio GR, Lasciallo and Masciadone. There are several abandoned Maiensässe (farmhouses in mountain pastures). In earlier times, animal husbandry and Alpine farming were the mainstay of the population. To earn a living, many of the inhabitants were compelled to seasonally relocate to other areas.
