The history of the wine-growing village of St-Saphorin, famous for its narrow alleyways and the unusual church tower, can be traced back to Roman times. The church was built in 1530 on the spot where there had been a mausoleum in the 5th century. Inside the church, the altar and a milestone dating from the year 53 bear witness to that era.
